Farmer Jailed For Stealing Cassava

Begoro (Eastern Region), 15 Oct. A 28-year-old farmer, Kofi Yirenkyi, was yesterday sentenced to three years' imprisonment in hard labour by a Begoro community tribunal for stealing. Prosecuting, Police Inspector D.D. Yorkyile, told the tribunal chaired by Mr. Paul Affum, that the accused had been suspected of harassing farmers in Apersika, a farming community near Begro in the Eastern region. On October 6, the accused was spotted selling a head-load of cassava at 6,000 cedis.
