A 56-year-old farmer, Stephen Yikeyir, in Navrongo in the Upper East Region is seeking support from the public to help him raise an amount of GHS 34,883. 46 for a spine surgery at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Mr. Yikeyir, who is from Nandom in the Upper West, but lives in Navrongo, was diagnosed of a medical condition called Lumbosacral Spondylosis at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in February and is estimated to cost GHS 34,883. 46 for a surgery.
The farmer, who has five dependents: a wife and four daughters, was first taken ill in August 2018 and hospitalized at the Tamale Teaching Hospital before being transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital earlier this year where he was diagnosed of the spinal condition.
Even though Doctors have advised that the surgery be done as soon as possible to make him walk properly again, Mr. Yikeyir and his family say, they have run out of resources and are at a fix now.
Unable to raise the amount involved, Mr. Yikeyir has returned home and is now under the care of his wife and daughters, hoping he will be able to raise the money through the benevolence of society.
He is currently unable to stand up straight or walk right, he can only elevate his upper body to an appreciable level and drag his feet.
The family is therefore appealing to the general public to come to their aid with cash donations.
