Farmer arrested for defiling a girl at grave yard

Nkawie (Ash), Aug 1, GNA - The Abuakwa police have arrested a 35-year-old farmer from Atwima-Agogo in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district of Ashanti who allegedly defiled a 15-year-old girl in the cemetery. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Akonnor, the Abuakwa District Police commander told the Ghana News Agency that on June 10 this year, the suspect approached the victim in her house and gave her 500 cedis to buy cooked rice from Atwima-Agogo town for her lunch.

He said while the victim was on her way, the suspect trailed her and on reaching the town's cemetery, pounced on her, dragged her some distance into the cemetery and forcibly had sex with her.

While in the act, ASP Akonnor said, the victim started crying for help which attracted some passers-by and the suspect on seeing them advancing towards the scene got up from the victim and fled into the bush but was given a hot chase but he managed to escape. However, he said, the suspect was arrested on June 30 at his hideout upon a tip-off.
