Farmer before tribunal for obstructing communal labour

Twedie (Ash), July 19, GNA - Oheneba Yaw Boateng, a farmer at Kromoase near Twedie in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district on Wednesday appeared before the Twedie community tribunal for rioting and obstructing communal activity.

He pleaded not guilty before the tribunal chaired by Alhaji M. K. Nuamah and was granted bail in the sum of 500,000 cedis to re-appear on July 21. Peter Gyeaman, driver, who is charged with Boateng, is on the run.

Police Inspector T. B. Tuffour, told the tribunal that the accused persons on June 20, organised to disrupt a communal labour initiated by the chief, assemblyman and the unit committee.

He said the exercise was to re-roof the local junior secondary school block, whose roof was ripped off during a rainstorm. Inspector Tuffour said the two accused persons threatened bloodshed should anyone dare to take part in the exercise.

He said the organisers sensing danger, reported the matter to the Police and Boateng was arrested but Gyeaman managed to run away.
