Cape Coast Feb. 24 GNA - Kweku Tetteh, a 26 year-old farmer from Paaso, near Twifo Hemang, was on Thursday, fined 390,000 cedis by a circuit at Cape Coast, for stealing a bunch of palm fruits worth 39,000 cedis belonging to the volunteer guards of the Twifo-Small-Holder-Oil- Palm -Plantation (TSOPP) Tetteh, who pleaded guilty, and would go to prison for six months in default, was also bonded to be of good behaviour for six months, or serve an additional six months in prison.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Henry Tanor, told the court, presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah, that on 24 September last year, the volunteer Guards were on their usual patrol duties at Paaso village, where they had kept a heap of palm fruits from the plantation. He said they detected that some of the fruits had been stolen, and found some dropped on the road, and they decided to trace the culprit in the houses nearby.
He said, they got to the house in which Tetteh lives, and requested to see the landlord, but he was not around and they left a message that they were going to bring the police.
Inspector Tanor said shortly afterwards, Tetteh's co-tenants arrested him Tetteh and took him together with the bunch of palm fruits he had stolen, to the police station and that when he was interrogated, Tetteh admitted the offence.
