Farmer goes in for unlawful entry and stealing

Ejisu (Ash), Aug 3, GNA - The Ejisu Magistrate's Court has sentenced a 34-year-old farmer from Asotwe, Yaw Ofori to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour for unlawful entry and stealing a cell phone. Ofori pleaded guilty to the charges. Police Chief Inspector A. K. Danquah told the Court that Mr Nyamekye Bosonu, Businessman, the complainant operated a drinking bar at Asotwe, near Ejisu. He said at about 1400 hours on July 10 Bosonu left his cell phone behind the counter at the drinking bar and went out.

Chief Inspector Danquah said when he returned five minutes later, he could not find the phone and so he enquired from some customers who were drinking at the bar at that time whether they had seen anyone entering the bar but they answered in the negative. The Prosecutor said, however, that one Osei Yaw saw the accused when he went near the counter. He said on July 26, Ofori who did not know that Osei Yaw saw him at the bar informed him (Osei Yaw) that he had a phone, which he wanted to sell.

Chief Inspector Danquah said they, therefore, bargained and the Witness told the accused to come for the money the following day after collecting the phone. He said the Witness, who heard Bosonu complaining about his lost phone, therefore, went and showed it to him to verify whether it was his. Chief Inspector Danquah said Bosonu immediately identified the phone as his missing phone and so they reported the matter to the Police and they agreed to meet at Osei Yaw's house since Ofori would come for his money. He said at about 1230 hours on July 27, the Ofori went to collect the money from the Witness and when he paid him, the Police, who were hiding in the Witness's room arrested him.
