Farmer granted bail for possessing firearm

Tema, Nov. 11, GNA - A farmer has been granted 10 million cedis bail for wielding a pistol at his wife in the night on the Dodowa-Ayikuma road in anger by the Tema Circuit Court 'A'. Kwasi Lartey, who pleaded not guilty, will have to support his bail with one surety to re-appear on November 23.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on March 23, 2004 at 2230 hours, police on night patrol duty on the Dodowa-Ayikuma road spotted Lartey holding a pistol pursuing his wife in anger.

She said when the police stopped the accused threw the pistol away into the bush. She said the Police found it after a search and when he was questioned as to how he came by the firearm, he explained that he found it in a bag in the bush at Assibi village and has been keeping it to himself.

Chief Inspector Assunta said the patrol team took him to the Dodowa police station and made a report, adding that, Lartey went into hiding when he was granted police enquiry bail for the police to investigate the case.

However, the accused was arrested on September 5, this year for prosecution.
