Farmer granted bail for possession of firearm without authorisation

A 33-year-old farmer, accused of possessing a firearm without authorisation and threatening death, has been granted bail in the amount of GH¢10,000 with two sureties by the Enchi District Magistrate Court.

Daliakor Darlington, the accused, pleaded guilty with an explanation to the charges against him.

The court, presided over by Lawrence Buanor-Buer, adjourned the case to Monday, May 13, 2024, for continuation.

Prosecuting Police Detective Chief Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare stated that the complainant, Sarah Goaba, operates a drinking pub at Nkrankrom and is the stepmother of the accused. Both the complainant and Daliakor reside in Nkrankrom, in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.

On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at about 3:00 PM, the complainant was in her pub serving customers when she observed Daliakor passing by with a single-barrel shotgun. After serving the customers, the complainant sat in a plastic chair while someone came to grind his cooked cassava and plantain into fufu.

Detective Chief Inspector Agyare reported that the complainant, who operated a fufu pounding machine in the pub, stood up to attend to the individual and suddenly heard a gunshot behind her establishment. She rushed out only to find that the plastic chair she had been sitting in was shattered.

The prosecution mentioned that some men who were drinking in the pub went outside, apprehended Daliakor with the gun, and he claimed he was folding the gun when it accidentally discharged and struck the chair.

They escorted Daliakor to the police station and reported the incident. However, he denied the offense in his caution statement.
