Tumu (U/W), Aug 3, GNA- The circuit court at Tumu in the Sissala District of the Upper West Region has remanded a 49-year-old man for attempting to murder Mr George Muro Bentseh, the former Assemblyman for Numoro electoral area in the Jirapa/Lambussie District. Emmanuel Sunuollu Beke's plea was not taken and he would re-appear on August 4.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Laar Baman told the court that the accused and the complainant had been intimate friends and lived in the same village as farmers. Early this year, the accused approached Mr Bentseh and sought his assistance to kill a crocodile and use its bile to poison some farmers in the village who he accused of occupying his farmland.
The complainant turned down the request but the accused again proposed to shoot the alleged illegal occupants of his farmland with a gun but his friend did not buy the idea warned the accused that he would reveal his intention to the chief of the village.
DSP Baman said on June 23, the accused shot Mr Bentsen, who was working in his farm, with a single barrelled gun. He was taken to Fielmuah Health Centre but he was transferred to the Wa Regional Hospital. After committing the crime the accused person fled to Accra but he was arrested when he returned to the village on July 22.
