Farmer jailed for swindling cocoa buying company

A 40-year-old farmer who swindled the Akuafo Adamfo Cocoa Marketing Company of GHS20,564.00 under the pretext of selling 97 bags of cocoa to the facility has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Nkawie Circuit Court.

Samuel Ennin was additionally ordered to pay back the money after serving the jail term. He pleaded guilty to the crime.

Police Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that the complainant is the District Manager of the Company, a licensed buying company (LBC) at Adiembra.

During the 2009 main cocoa crop season the convict offered to sell to the LBC, the bags of cocoa.

The prosecution said Ennin collected the money and went into hiding but run out of luck in December, last year, when he was arrested.
