Farmer jailed for unlawfully being on Goldfields concession

Sani Mohammed, a 41-year-old farmer, has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for unlawfully being on the concession of Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), Tarkwa Mine.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided by Mr Justice Obeng Asante, that the complainants were security officers of GGL, Tarkwa Mine and the accused lived at Mankessim, a farming community near Tarkwa.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said at about 2300 hours on October 2, this year, the security officers were on their normal patrol when they spotted Sani with his illegal mining tools at Akontasi Cut 7 area within Goldfeilds concession.

He said the accused was arrested with the exhibits and was handed over to the police.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said after investigation, Sani was charged with the offence.
