A 58-year old famer from Jukwa-Frami in the Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District of the Central Region has been remanded into Police custody by a Cape Coast magistrate’s Court for allegedly poisoning his two step children.

Yaw Kusi who carried out the alleged nefarious activity on his farm, about 3 kilometers away from his house allegedly in fury because the children’s mother who is his second wife had deceived him.

His plea was not taken and would reappear in court on Wednesday July 11, 2018.

According to the Prosecution led by Sergeant Iddrissu Yakubu, the complainant, Ms. Abigail Aidoo, a 35-year old trader at Jukwa-Frami is married to Kusi but her two children, Kabutey, aged seven and Josephine Odoom, four are from her previous relationship.

Sergeant Iddrissu said about two weeks ago, Ms Aidoo told Kusi that she was five months old pregnant for him and based on that information, he took a loan of Ghc 1,000.00 to support her trade.

On receiving the money, Ms Aidoo travelled to Accra and bought some goods to Tarkwa to sell without Kusi hearing from her for two weeks, Kusi became alarmed and on the morning of Thursday June 7, 2018 asked one Sumama to call his wife and ask of her whereabouts.

Sergeant Yakubu told the court that when the call was placed at dawn, a man picked and handed it over to Ms. Aidoo and coupled with an information from an unknown source that his wife was on family planning and therefore could not conceive he threatened to teach her a bitter lesson.

He said true to his words, Kusi sent the victims to his farm and gave them “Akuafo Adamfo” a substance used in spraying cocoa farms and left them to their fate with an intent to kill them but they later vomited it out.

When they returned home by themsleves the children narrated their ordeal to one Mr. Kofi Antwi who gave them charcoal mixture and red oil to neutralise the substance before taking them to a nearby hospital.

Kusi was arrested and sent to the Jukwa Police Station and the case was later transferred to the Cape Coast Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

He was arraigned before Court after investigations.
