Akim Swedru, May 21, GNA - The Akim Swedru Circuit Court has granted Yaw Nkrumah, a 48-year-old farmer at Akim Manso in the Birim South District, into police custody for causing harm to a palm wine taper.

The accused, whose plea was not taken, is to re-appear in court on May 23.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo, said at about 2000 hours on March 27, this year, the accused allegedly confronted the complainant, Kweku Amoako to pay back a debt he had no knowledge of. Mr Nkrumah who became angry about the insistence of the complainant that he did not owe him any money, hit his jaw with a torch light and his head with a stone resulting in a deep cut.

He told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwa that, when the complainant fell down with blood oozing from his head, the accused pinned him to the ground and bit off part of his lip. A witness managed to rescue the complainant who later lodged a complaint at the local police station, where he was issued with a medical form to attend hospital.

The accused was later arrested.
