Farmer remanded for insulting court

Akyem Swedru (E/R), Jan 16, GNA- The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded Achaw Issah, a 58-year-old farmer in police custody to reappear on January 25 on charges of insulting the Akyem Oda Magistrate Court and resisting arrest.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector K. K. Antwi told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah, that on January 10 at about 1330 hours while the court was in session, the accused person suddenly walked to the middle of the room and shouted at the top of his voice that he did not understand why his case was adjourned.

He said the court clerks tried to restrain him, but that rather angered him and started insulting them, calling the officials fools The Magistrate ordered that the police should arrest him but he resisted and struggled with them and in the process halting the court proceedings.

He was finally overpowered and arrested and taken to the District police station after which he was charged with the offence.
