The Winneba Magistrate court has remanded a 55-year farmer from Gomoa Awomberew in the Central Region into prison custody for allegedly murdering his step-son.

The plea of Kweku Effrim was not taken and will re-appear before the court on 13th June 2016.

Prosecution Detective Police Inspector Peter Agbelle told the court presided over by Mr Alexander Oworae that the complainant is Madam Efua Kwansimah from Gomoa Awomberew while the accuse is her husband.

He said the deceased Kofi Annan is a step-son of the accused person.

The prosecution said in March 2016, there was misunderstanding between the complainant and the accused person during which Effrim subjected the woman to severe beatings.

According to the prosecution the deceased, aged above twenty, who was present during the troubles, asked the accused to henceforth refrain from visiting the complainant in her house again.

Detective Inspector Agbelle said the accused person left Awomberew for Half Assini in the Western Region and returned to the town on May 6 and at about 0100 hours with a cutlass.

The prosecution said Effrim that same dawn went to the complainant house and saw the deceased sleeping on the corridor leading to a room and inflected multiple cutlass wounds on his right shoulder and neck.

He said the accused after the act bolted but incidentally left his cloth behind.

The prosecution said, the deceased was rushed to Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba but died shortly on arrival.

The accused was later arrested during police investigations.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy.
