Juaso (Ash), Sept. 16, GNA - The Juaso Circuit Court has remanded a 21-year-old farmer into prison custody for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs.

Kwadwo Mensah, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and would re-appear before the court on September 25.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joseph K Damanka told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that, the complainants in the case were policemen stationed at Juansa, whilst the accused was a farmer also resident at Juansa.

He said a case of theft was reported at the Juansa Police Station against the accused somewhere last year but he went into hiding. On March 9, this year, however, the Juansa Police had a tip-off that the accused was hiding in a house at the outskirt of the town and traced him there. Upon reaching there, according to the prosecutor, the accused, who was smoking with other accomplices took to their heels but the police managed to arrest him. When he was searched a wrapper found in his pocket as well as a plastic container he was holding contained dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

He was then escorted to the police station together with the exhibits, where he mentioned one Asenso as the one, who gave him the leaves to sell, when he was questioned. The exhibits were sealed in his presence and forwarded to the police forensic laboratory in Accra, the result of which proved to be cannabis weighing 18 grams, thereby charging him with the offence.
