Farmer remanded in prison custody for beating wife to death

Breman Asikuma (C/R), April 29, GNA - A 40 year old farmer from Brem= an Asikuma, who beat his wife to death and went into hiding for seven months= , has been remanded in prison custody by the Breman Asikuma Magistrates' Court. The plea of Kweku Amoah was not taken and will re-appear before the court on May 25 2010.

Narrating the facts of the case to the court, presided over by Mrs Cynthia Adei Andy, prosecution Police Chief Inspector Mr Gershon Awuyeeh,=

said on October 2 last year, the deceased, Madam Efua Abonimah, who was t= he wife of the accused person, attended a funeral in the town and returned v= ery late in the night. He said the husband, Amoah became very angry with the wife and he rushed to his mother-in-law, Madam Efua Adjeiwa, who stays nearby and tol= d her that he would beat Abonimah severely for returning late from the funeral. The prosecution said the mother of the women pleaded with her brothe= r in-law to cool down so that she handles the matter the next morning. H e said Amoah refused and went ahead to beat the deceased merciless= ly until she became unconscious.

Chief Inspector Awuyeeh said the mother-in-law heard the shouting of=

her daughter and rushed to the house to intervene in the matter but saw E= fua Abonimah lying on the ground unconscious. He said with the help of some neighbours she was rushed to "Our Lady= of Grace Hospital" at Breman Asikuma, where she was pronounced dead on arriv= al. Chief Inspector Awuyeeh said Amoah on hearing the death of his wife went into hiding until he was arrested at Akyem Ntonan in the Eastern Reg= ion on April 24 2010, upon a tip-of.
