Kwame Alex, a 36-year-old farmer, on Tuesday appeared before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court on charges of threatening to set a house ablaze with petrol.

The house belongs to the mother of his former girlfriend.

Alex, who also faced a charge of damaging two doors and locks of the rooms, six roofing sheets and two plastic buckets, pleaded guilty with explanation and was remanded in prison custody to reappear on December 31.

He told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu that he was drunk and lost control of himself at the time of the incident.

Police Inspector David T. Wayoe, prosecuting told the court that the complainant, a seamstress, and Alex reside at Akwadum near Akwatia.

Alex had a child with the daughter of the complainant, Mary Abredu, but later travelled to an unknown destination for seven years during which Mary got married to a new man at Nkawkaw.

On December 08, Mary visited the mother at Akwadum, and when Alex got to know that his former girl-friend had arrived in that village, he decided to go to their house.

Alex alleged that whilst he was passing by the complainant and his ex-lover laughed at him, so he decided to teach them a lesson.

The behaviour of Alex forced the two women to run into their room, but the accused became angry and started to cause damage to the house initially by throwing stones.

He then caused damage to two doors and their locks, six roofing sheets and two plastic buckets all valued at Ghc274.00.

Alex further threatened that he was going to bring petrol to burn the house.

The complainant and her daughter rushed to the chief’s palace and reported the behaviour of Alex, and with the help of others he was arrested and handed over to the police.
