A 21-year-old farmer who allegedly stole a bag of dried cocoa beans worth GH¢360.00 has been ordered by a Tarkwa District court to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for a period of one year.
In default, the accused, Collins Kwaku Yeboah, would serve three months imprisonment.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of theft.
Prosecuting, Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, told the court, presided over by Madam Gifty Cudjoe that the complainant, Addae Owusu is a farmer at Nyong while the accused, Collins Kwaku Yeboah, is a farmer at Asuogye, near Nsueam.
On December 7 last year, Yeboah came from Kojokrom in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and settled at Asuogye for hunting expedition.
The next day, the accused stole a bag of dried cocoa beans from the complainant’s house while returning from his hunting expedition.
The complainant informed his neighbours about his missing cocoa beans and asked them to report anybody who attempts to sell any dried cocoa beans.
At about 12 noon the same day, Yeboah was seen at “Mile Five”, a farming community within the area, carrying a bag of dried cocoa beans and upon interrogation, he could not explain how he acquired it.
The accused was therefore arrested by the Unit Committee members in the town and handed over to the police.
Upon investigations, the accused was charged with theft and prosecuted accordingly.
