Farmers Day at Adaklu solidifies peace process

Adaklu-Waya (V/R), Dec. 4, GNA - The wind of peace blew and became visible on Farmers Day on Friday for the residents of Adaklu-Anyigbe District as the chiefs and people from the three traditional areas embraced each other in love and unity.

This was after the chiefs and people of Adaklu Traditional Area had rescinded their decision to extricate themselves from the district. The two other traditional areas are Agortime-Kpetoe and Ziope. The people smoke the peace pipe with minimal security presence. Mr Michael Kobla Adzaho, the District Chief Executive (DCE) told the people, "Treasure and nurture the peace you have worked hard to bring to the district".

He assured them that Government would play its collaborative role to bring development to the infant district. Mr Adzaho said to achieve self-sufficiency in agricultural production and attain food security Government was undertaking a pilot project to discourage subsistence and rain dependent way of farming and rather encourage modern methods of farming.

On the forthcoming district level elections, the DCE advised the people not to vote for those who "will be carrying bags for others in the assembly but men of integrity who know and can pursue your developmental needs". Mr Noah Adominah, Adaklu-Anyigbe District Director of Agriculture, advised stakeholders in the agribusiness to come out with ideas to boost agriculture in a business and environmentally conscious atmosphere. He said less than 40 per cent of the large track of arable land for the production of major crops was presently under cultivation. Togbe Gogbi Atsa V, Paramount Chief of Adaklu Traditional Area, in a welcome address, appealed to Government to revamp tourist sites in the district and also give biodiversity activities the needed attention to generate income for the district. Mr David Metor, 32, from Adaklu-Seva was adjudged the best farmer in the district and was given a motorbike, two pairs of Wellington boots, four cutlasses and a certificate as his prize. 4
