Tanodumase (Ash), June 11, GNA- Residents of Nsuontem, Tanodumase and Gyereso, three farming communities in the Atwima district have called for the rehabilitation of the 14-kilometre Bibiani-Tanodumase-Gyereso road.

Nana Darko Manu, chief of Bontomuruso, who is also the headteacher of Tanodumase Junior Secondary School (JSS), who made the call through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tanodumase on Wednesday, said the road was so bad that drivers have refused to ply it especially when it rains. He said farmers in these communities walk a distance of over 14 kilometres to Bibiani market to sell their farm produce.

Nana Manu said some maintenance work was started on the road some months ago but was later abandoned and this had even contributed to worsening conditions of the road.

Meanwhile, the Muslim community at Tanodumase through self-help, have put up a three-classroom block for the local Islamic JSS at a cost of 92 million cedis.

Mr Osei Kwaku Oware, headteacher of the Islamic primary school, who led newsmen to inspect the project, said it was financed through voluntary contributions by the Islamic community.

The JSS block when approved by the Atwima district education office, he said, would absorb the primary six pupils and also encourage the large number of primary six Muslim pupils in the farming communities to continue their education.
