Nkoranza, Feb 02, GNA - The Nkoranza District Magistrate Court has remanded five farmers from Tinabu, a farming community, into police custody for two weeks for arson.

The suspects burnt four houses and destroyed foodstuffs and personal effects over a chieftaincy dispute. They were named as Kwadwo Larte, Kwabena Effah, Yaw Takyi, Kwadwo Oppong and Kwadwo P.K.

Mr Reginald Osei, District Police Commander, told GNA that one of the suspects, Kwame Fosu, is on the run. He said last year the people decided to re-enstool one Nana Kwabena Nyarko as chief of Tinabu but the Queenmother, Nana Yaa Saah, objected to the decision.

Mr Osei said the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs wrote a letter asking the police to restrain the followers of Nana Nyarko from performing a proposed thanksgiving ceremony for his re-enstoolment.

The District Police Commander said the contents of the House's letter did not go well with Nana Nyarko's supporters, some of whom went on the rampage and set ablaze four houses belonging to some supporters of the Queen mother.
