Members of the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana, have commended the government for the reintroduction of the fertilizer subsidy in the country.

Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng Bonsu, the President of the Association, said the farmers in the country were grateful to the government for responding to their appeal.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday, at a start of a tour to visit some farmers in the Ashanti region, Nana Bonsu said the reintroduction of the fertilizer subsidy would help boost food production in the country.

He, however, warned farmers against smuggling the fertilizer to neighbouring countries and urged members of the association to report any farmer trying to sell the fertilizer outside Ghana.

Nana Bonsu, who is also a member of the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen, stressed the need for government to address some of the challenges facing agriculture to encourage more youth to go into farming.

He appealed to chiefs to make lands available to the youth to go into agriculture instead of selling farmlands for real estate development.

Nana Bonsu commended the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Fiifi Kwetey for his efforts at encouraging the youth to go into agriculture and said such a gesture would not only help create employment but boost food production.
