Farmers demand apology from GRNMA Secretary over ‘disrespectful’ remarks

Farmers across the country have expressed outrage over comments made by the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), who allegedly referred to the Minister of Health as a “farmer” in what many describe as a derogatory and condescending manner.

In a strongly worded statement, the Chief Executive Officer of The Executive Farmer, Ibn Yameen Lukman, described the comments as “reckless, shameful, and an insult to hardworking farmers whose sweat sustains the nation.”

He added that; “Let’s be clear: farming is not a fallback for the uneducated. Farming is science, skill, resilience, and sacrifice. It is the bedrock of every economy and the heartbeat of every household.”

He further emphasised the critical role farmers play in national development, stressing that without them, no sector of the economy can thrive.

“Doctors, nurses, teachers, ministers, and every Ghanaian eat because farmers rise early, work the land, and produce the food that sustains us all. Without food, there is no health, no education, no governance, nothing,” he added.

Yameen accused the GRNMA secretary of showing “a lack of wisdom and arrogance unbefitting of a national leader,” insisting that the remarks go beyond the Minister of Health and insult the entire farming community.

“We, as farmers, demand an unqualified apology from the GRNMA secretary. Until he retracts and apologizes, he remains unfit to speak about leadership, because true leadership begins with respect,” he stated.

The farming community has, therefore, called on the leadership of the GRNMA to take immediate steps to address the matter and restore dignity to the profession.
