Farmers in Aowin District of the Western Region are asking government to pay compensations for the destruction of their cocoa farms by contractors working on the Enchi- Dadieso road.

In a petition to the ministry of roads and highways signed by Nana Enimil Kwaw, Anguzuhene of Enchi Traditional Area, and some affected farmers, they lamented that the demolition of their farm produce has rendered most of them jobless- a situation they contended was making life unbearable for them.

According to the aggrieved farmers, several attempt for the past two years for government to address their plights have yielded fruitless results, hence the petition to the roads minister.

“We have held several meetings with the District Security Council (DISEC) and the acting regional chief farmer and they made lots of promises to pay the compensation, but to no avail,” the farmers stressed.

Against that backdrop, the group has threatened to stage a protest akin to what took place in Ashiaman, Accra on Monday, to press home their demands.

“We will not hesitate to block the Enchi to Dadieso main road and also take further actions if our concerns are not given the necessary recognition and addressed properly,” the angry farmers warned.

The group said in order to maintain peace and harmony in the community they are urging government to, as a matter of urgency, address their concerns before things get out of hand.
