Accra, Oct. 18, GNA - A farmers' organization on Wednesday added its voice to appeals to teachers to return to the classroom while negotiating with the Government on their demands. The Apex Farmers' Organization of Ghana (APFOG) said some farmers were engaging their children on the farm because of the strike action by teachers, which has forced students and pupils out of the classroom. A statement signed by Alhaji Nashiru Kadri and Mr Patrick Apula, President and Vice President, respectively, expressed fears that "children engaged on the farms might not return to the classroom in the long run".
The Association said it did not want rural farmers' children to suffer as a result of the continued standoff between the Government and the teachers. APFOG further appealed to the Government to negotiate for an early solution to the problem. The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and some members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) are on strike demanding better salaries and improved conditions of service. 18 Oct. 06
