Techiman (B/A) March 19, GNA- Mr. Joseph Asantey, a Charted Management Consultant, has underscored the need for farmers to see farming as a business oriented activity.

He said time has gone for people to regard farming as growing and consuming.

Mr. Asantey was delivering a lecture on "strategic business and marketing planning, at a five day workshop at Techiman for 23 farmer groups of ECASARD in Brong Ahafo.

He said since business thrived on marketing it was important that farmers understood the basics of business and marketing to make an impact on their activities.

In this direction, Mr. Asantey added, business which runs at a loss within a given period cannot be considered as a business oriented venture and charged the participants to abide by the strategies involved in marketing to achieve maximum benefits.

He asked customers to determine geographically their market in order that they could narrow the business for its usefulness. He identified three main marketing strategies, namely selling products to everyone, reaching just a few segment of market and selecting target segments of the market.
