Accra, May 19, GNA - A fashion designer who alleged defrauded a Sri Lankan of 20,000 dollars under the pretext of supplying him with six kilogrammes of gold and acquire a Namibian passport for him appeared at an Accra Circuit Court on Monday.

The court did not take the plea of Abubakar Sadeeq aka Kojo Mensa and ordered him to reappear May 26.

The prosecutor said in 2006, Sadeeq lured Mr Hafeel Mohammed Abass to Ghana so that he could sell to him gold he allegedly had in stock. Mr Abass in the same year came to Ghana and Sadeeq introduced three persons, James Brown, Jacob and Yakubu, all at large, as owners of the gold, who could also help him secure a Namibian passport.

Sadeeq and his accomplices managed to collect 12,000 dollars for the purchase of gold and 8,000 dollars for the passport.

The prosecution said as soon as Sadeeq and his accomplices received the money they went into hiding. Mr Abass reported the matter to the Police and Sadeeq was smoked out of his hideout.
