A devastating accident has rocked the Central Business District of Accra, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

The incident occurred just before 6:00 P.M. on September 1, 2025, near the COCOBOD frontage, when an Aayalolo bus, suspected to have developed a brake fault, crashed into traders in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were waiting to catch buses to their destinations when the bus drove into the crowd, killing a woman instantly.

The deceased, who has not been identified yet, was believed to have visited the area to shop.

Several others, including traders selling on the median pavement, sustained injuries, while others lost their wares.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who visited the accident scene, blamed traders who have extended their activities onto pavements and streets.

He instructed all traders to vacate the pavements immediately, stating, "From tomorrow morning, nobody should come and sell here again."

The incident has raised concerns about safety and congestion in the Central Business District.

The damaged bus has been towed from the scene, and the Accra Regional Police Command is investigating the incident.
