Father Jailed For Incest

A 40-year old farmer, resident of Abuontem in the Nkoranza district of Brong Ahafo region, Mr. Kwadwo Ampofo has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour by the Techiman circuit court for insert. The accused person, who pleaded guilty, asked for leniency and attributed his act to the influence of alcohol.

Prosecuting, police chief inspector S.Y Jebuni told the court presided over by his lordship Justice G.K Kwasi Kumah that the incident occurred on 14th February, 2007 after the accused person had invited the victim who is his biological daughter from Akuma, another village in the Nloranza district for her new sewn school uniform. He said on reaching her father’s villa the two journeyed to Baanafo for the said uniform.

According to the chief inspector the purpose that sent the two to the village was not accomplished. He told the packed court that they therefore set off to Abontem. The prosecutor reiterated that on reaching a portion of the road, the accused person instructed the Class five Pupil to lie supine on a slap, forced her to undress and forcibly had sex with her on six different rounds. Chief inspector Jebuni further explained that Mr. Ampofo cautioned the poor girl not to disclose the ordeal to any one, even not her mother.

He said on arrival at Abuotem, the victim was asked to go to Akuma. However, at Akuma the girl who could not keep the ordeal, made it known to her grandfather, who also lodged complain to the police, a medical form was issued, and she was quickly sent to the Nkoranza St. Theresa’s hospital where it was detected that she had been defiled by an elderly consideration the damage to her hymen. After a thorough investigation, the accused person was whisked away from his hide out and further sent to Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Wenchi Office, charged with the offense and arraigned before court.
