Some political heavyweights within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have thrown their unflinching support behind Sir Kofi Portuphy to win the chairmanship position of the party at their December 20th Super delegates Congress in Kumasi.
Moments after the aspiring chairman filed his nominations at the party Headquarters in Accra a member of the counsel of state and member of parliament for the Ododiodoo constituency called on the delegates to vote for Mr. Kofi Portuphy for a better NDC.
According to a former member of the counsel of state madam Faustina Nelson described Mr. Portuphy as an industrious man who when given the chance could propel the party to victory in the upcoming general elections in December 2016.
"The man is hardworking, affable, capable and able to do a good job when given the opportunity. He is a real gentleman who has the forward March of the party at heart," madam Faustina Neslon said."
Faustina Nelson who was part of 'Uncle Pee's' entourage to file his nomination at the party's Kokomlemle office made it explicitly clear that her candidate stands tall among the other contestants.
She argued that going into the next elections there was the need for the party to have a a visionary leader who had what it took to carry the people along and that personality is Mr Kofi Portuphy.
She urged the delegates not to fall prey to deceits and influences but be led by their conscience and vote for an action oriented and visionary Kofi Portuphy.
Corroborating the former counsel of state member's assessment of the incoming chairman, the member of parliament for the Odododiodoo constituency and a deputy minister for local government Nii Lantey Vanderpuye said his endorsement of the man is a clear indication of the fact that the grassroots believe he could do better in moving the party forward.
"Though all four contesting for the party's chairmanship, I believe Mr Portuphy stands out. He is selfless, hardworking, caring, decisive and a team player," Nii Lantey said.
The lawmaker paid a glowing tribute to uncle Pee, saying the NADMO boss possesses such leadership qualities the NDC could benefit from to win the 2016 elections.
He said the former chairman had done his bit and was the turn of a more vibrant and action driven personality who understood the game to take over and lead the party to victory.
"I have known and associated with him over the years and I tell you what, Mr Portuphy is a man who has the NDC at heart and would do everything possible to build a more viable and vibrant party which could stand the test of time.
Other delegates at the party headquarters at the time of the filing expressed confidence in Mr Kofi Portuphy assuring him of a comprehensive victory in Kumasi on 20th December 2014.
Mr Kofi Portuphy is also enjoying massive support from across the ten regions. They describe him as a magnanimous man who is not full of himself but cares for all especially the poor.
