...AS MILLS THRASHES KONADU

It was 6:45pm last Saturday, 9th July 2011 at the Sunyani Coronation Park, the
venue for the National Democrat Congress (NDC) delegates congress when Mr.
David Kanga, deputy director for operations, Electoral Commission declared
President Evans Atta Mills as the party’s flagbearer for the 2012 general
elections.
The announcement received spontaneous applause followed by jubilation from
delegates who celebrated the good news with drumming, singing and dancing amidst
praising the Almighty God for a successful and peaceful congress that endorsed
the incumbent to continue with his better Ghana agenda.
President Mills obtained impressive votes of 2771 representing 96.9% while Nana
Konadu had only 90 votes representing 3.1% of the 2861 total votes cast.
The humiliating defeat suffered by Nana Konadu has come as bad news to the New
Patriotic Party, which is set to affect the political fortunes of Nana Addo in
the 2012 elections.
The NPP, during campaigning for the NDC flagbearership pitched camp with the
FONKAR train with their propaganda of lies and mis-information, describing the
Mills administration as corrupt, insensitive and incompetent in the managing of
the affairs of the country.
Out of the blue, the NPP accepted the Rawlingses and FONKA’s accusations against
President Mills and the NDC government as the gospel truth that must be
trumpeted for all Ghanaians to hear.
Their new found allies became their heroes and mentors overnight and helped them
champion their cause with their mis-information and misrepresentation machinery
to make NDC unpopular as means to enhance their political fortunes. NPP’s agenda
was to create disunity in the NDC to weaken the grassroots structures to their
advantage.
President Mills has been described by FONKAR and NPP as an outsider, a CPP
member, a tenant, insensitive to the concerns of NDC Foot soldiers, divisive and
incompetent to lead the party again.
Nana Konadu’s defeat is manifestation of the total rejection of her accusations
against the President and also signifies the endorsement and confidence the good
people of Ghana have in the leadership and the better Ghana agenda
programme.
According to supporters and delegates the paper spoke to, the President’s
historic victory has put to shame the wish of the NPP and also proved wrong
those who wanted to see NDC dismantle after the delegates’ congress.
“My brother, the peaceful manner in which the election was held has shocked the
leadership of the NPP”, Daniel Manu stated.
The Daily Democrat was told that the agenda of the NPP was to see Nana Agemang
Konadu win the contest to make it easier for Nana Addo Dankwa in 2012.
What shocked most Ghanaians was that, the Rawlings’ family noted to be the
number one enemy of the NPP, suddenly became their best friends to the extent of
campaigning for the former first lady.
