A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Self-Dependent Teenage Mother’s Foundation (SDTMF) has donated items worth GH¢ 20,000 to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The exercise formed part of the organisation's corporate social responsible as well as put smiles on the faces of the inmates.
The items donated include nine bags of rice, gallons of oil, disinfectants, toilet rolls, and soft drinks, bags of water, bandage, cottons and gauzes.
The NGO also cleaned various areas of the facility to ensure the in mates lived in a clean environment.
Presenting the items, the Chief Executive Officer of SDTMF Nana Esi Baffoa Sam said persons with mentally I’ll patients do not receive the necessary attention they deserve and called on religious bodies and corporate institutions to assist the facility.
She said the foundation had noticed that the occupational therapy centre was not functioning and said her outfit try to contribute its quota to ensure the centre was functioning.
She said the centre if operational would help train the inmates in vocational skills so as not to become a burden on the society when they are discharged.
Madam Sam indicated that her outfit aims to train about 230 young mothers in various entrepreneurial skills “so that they do not depend on boys for their daily outfit and avoid teenage pregnancy.”
Receiving the items, the Senior Nursing Officer (SNO) at the children’s ward, Madam Makafui Agbeko said the items would be of immense help to the facility.
She urged other organizations to support the hospital give adequate care the inmates.
