Female executive leaders mentor ladies

Female executive leaders from the academia and corporate businesses on Saturday provided leadership guidance to young ladies to lead and act in the future.

Young ladies were advised to steer off trivial things and focus on working to build firm leadership traits of perseverance, determination, humility, consistency and prioritisation of goals.

The female executives offered the guidance at a conference organised by Purposed, United and Relevant Partnership for Leaders and Enterprise (PURPLE) to mark the International Women’s Day.

The conference dubbed: PURPLE Conference, was on the theme: “empowering women to become social change agents to fast-track Ghana’s achievement of the united nation’s MDG 3.”

Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, said women in leadership positions should move beyond setting goals and visions to practicing leadership qualities that yields tangible results.

She said women ought to demonstrate beyond the mundane leadership traits of merely setting goals and visions, to accepting and embracing change in society and in the corporate world.

“Female leaders have to be action and results-oriented to be able to meet the demands on them,” she said.

Mrs. Dentaa Amoateng, CEO of Ghana UK-Based Achievement Awards, said women ought to learn to take calculated risk in life and get to act about what they set to do.

She said young ladies needed to build confidence, cultivate the drive and determination to overcome setbacks in an effort to meet set goals.

Rev Mrs. Adelaide Heward-Mills, Executive Director of Daughters of You Can Ministry, said women as social change agents were required to build strong reputation and integrity which should start within oneself.

She advised women to eschew “outward adorning” and set priorities right aided by developing one’s intellectual and negotiation skills to be able to face the realities of life.

She said women ought to learn to be courteous to be able to break the protocol to excel.

Mrs. Patient Akyianu, Managing Director of Barclays Ghana, said for women to shine in their various careers, they needed to have support system or networking; and has to acquire leadership traits that would make them relevant in their fields.

Dr Margaret Amoakohene, who chaired the conference, said upcoming young ladies should dialogue with women who have made it in life for guidance and networking.

Ms Barbara Senu, health professional and host of the conference, said the conference is aimed at inspiring young ladies to take opportunities in the society and to learn from successful women.
