Female students urged to aspire for higher laurels

Female students in the Northern Region have been tasked to take their studies seriously and aspire for higher educational laurels and contribute meaningfully to the development of their local communities and the nation as a whole.

Ms Rafiatu Lawal, National Committee Chairperson of CAMA who made the recommendation at Nyankpala, said education remains the most single important tool to wipe away poverty and improve the standard of living of the citizenry.

She was speaking at a ceremony to induct 370 female students into CAMA which is a network of young women who have been sponsorship by the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), an NGO, through Senior High School.

Ms Lawal stated that, the induction ceremony marks the girls’ successful completion of Senior High School and join the more than 2500 membership group, to serve as role models in various communities across the country.

She said the young women would undertake voluntary work in their communities as well as inspire female colleagues to take education seriously, adding, “The goal of CAMA members is to empower young women through education.”

She noted that, when women are educated, they contribute immensely to the eradication of poverty in their homes, communities and the country at large.

Two visually impaired female students who are pursuing tertiary education shared their experiences as CAMA members and commended the Association for inspiring them as well as providing material and financial support, which has made them what they are today.

Madam Dolores Dickson, Executive Director of Camfed Ghana, said CAMA would be extended to cover more districts in the country to motivate and promote female education.**
