Nkoranza (B/A), Oct. 28, GNA - The youth of Fiema and Bonte in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo have embarked on communal labour to fill pot holes on the five kilometre feeder road that leads from Boabeng-Fiema to Tankor on the Nkoranza-Kintampo highway. The state of the road is so deplorable that it poses a threat to the lives of passengers, who use it and that some drivers even refuse to use it whenever it rained in the area.

The residents of Fiema, Boabeng, and Bonte have therefore, decided to work on the road, as all efforts to have the Department of Feeder Roads reshape it have not been successful. Mr Benjamin Adu-Darko and Mr Samuel Akuna, Assembly members of the area, who mobilized their members for the programme, appreciated the efforts of their people, who did not oppose to their suggestions. The people readily accepted the challenge for they realized that they themselves needed to protect their lives as they use the road. The Assembly members commended two transport owners of the area, Messrs Yaw Yeboah and Kofi Agama, who released their tractors to convey gravels to fill the potholes at the start of the programme on Wednesday. Mr Kwaku Nsiah one of the elders of Fiema was also praised for his leadership role in mobilizing the people and encouraging them to work on the road.

The youth would continue to work on the road to ensure that all the dangerous spots were filled to make it accessible to all road users in the area.

Meanwhile, an appeal has gone to the Government to consider the high revenue generated from the monkey sanctuary at Boabeng-Fiema and award the road on contract to promote tourist attraction in the area.
