Fiema (B/A), April 23, GNA- Residents of Fiema in Nkoranza District bagged 14.6 million cedis at a fund raising rally on Friday in support of an electrification project.
Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, District Chief Executive commended the people for their initiative and foresight and said Government was committed to support communities that initiate development projects. He assured the people that the District Assembly would assist them in all ways to enhance the development of the area.
He announced that the Assembly had decided to use part of its HIPC fund to construct a clinic for the twin communities of Buabeng and Fiema.
The clinic would also provide medical care for visitors to the monkey sanctuary in the area, he added.
Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi asked the people to bury any differences and forge ahead in unity.
On electioneering campaigns and the December general election, he advised the youth to be disciplined, law abiding and never to resort to violence and confusion in the communities.
Political opponents are not enemies, he said and cautioned the people against being divided by partisan politics. He promised to provide them with 12 low-tension poles to add to 50 that the Assembly gave to Fiema community three years ago.
Mr. Benjamin Adu-Darko, the Assembly Member, announced that the project, estimated at 120,000 cedis, was being funded through individual contributions of 20,000 cedis a man and 10,000 cedis a woman for resident citizens.
Non-resident citizens are contributing 40,000 cedis a man and 20,000 cedis a woman, he added.
He expressed gratitude to the District Assembly for supporting the community with about 60 poles towards the project.
The Chief of the area, Nana Amponsah Boateng in his welcoming address commended the people for the unity and cooperation and urged them to maintain the spirit to enhance the development of the community. He appealed to non-resident citizens to visit home regularly to offer support towards development programmes to help the people to improve their living standards.
Mr. Matthias Kudom, Chairman of the Development Project Committee appreciated the efforts of the people towards the project.
