The Ghana Police Service has made a fifth arrest in the tragic case of Austin Tengbeh, the 26-year-old Liberian information technology specialist who was beaten to death in a mob attack at Sakumono, Lashibi, on February 27, 2026.

The news came during a press briefing today at CID Headquarters, where Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed that Nana Agyening Boateng had been taken into custody and remanded.

Police believe Boateng played a key role in sparking the chain of events that ended in Tengbeh’s death.

The attack shocked the nation after graphic video footage spread rapidly on social media, showing a group of men assaulting the young man with machetes and other weapons.

Tengbeh, who had been living and working in Ghana, died from his injuries shortly afterwards.

Three suspects, Vincent Adzikah, Francis Amuzu, and William Addison, were arrested right at the scene by Sakumono District Police officers.

A fourth man, Enoch Mensah, initially fled but was later tracked down and remanded on March 4.

All five suspects are now in police custody and are scheduled to reappear before the Baatsonaa District Court on March 16, 2026.

A post-mortem examination took place on March 5 after Tengbeh’s brother-in-law formally identified the body.

The final autopsy report awaits toxicology results.

The case was quickly escalated to the CID Homicide Unit on March 6, along with machete exhibits and three of the remand suspects, to ensure a thorough investigation.

COP Donkor used the briefing to send a strong message against mob justice.

“This is a criminal offence under Ghanaian law,” she said, adding that the police wish to remind the public that taking the law into one’s own hands will not be tolerated.

She appealed directly to citizens to report crimes to the police instead of resorting to violence or encouraging crowds to act.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest police station or call the emergency line, 191.

The killing has stirred deep emotions beyond Ghana’s borders.

On March 6, Ghana’s Independence Day, protesters gathered outside the Ghanaian Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia, calling for justice for Austin Tengbeh.

Liberia’s Ambassador to Ghana, Musu Jatu Ruhle, expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and confirmed that the embassy is in close contact with Ghanaian authorities and security agencies to follow developments.

For Tengbeh’s loved ones, friends, and the Liberian community in Ghana, today’s update brings a small step towards accountability in a case that has left many asking how a young man simply going about his life could meet such a violent end.

Police say they remain committed to pursuing full justice.
