Fifty-seven hairdressers pass out in Kumasi

Kumasi, Dec. 2, GNA - Mr. Osei Asibbey Antwi, Ashanti Regional Industrial Relations Officer, on Thursday stressed the need for an appreciable level of literacy for hairdressers to ensure the correct application of hair products on their customers. He said hairdressers who worked with chemicals needed to know how to read the instructions on hair products, because misuse of the product could have disastrous adverse effects on their customers.

Mr. Antwi was addressing 57 graduands of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Progressive Hairdressers and Beauticians Association after the completion of their three-year apprenticeship training in Kumasi. He said hairdressing was a recognized profession and asked the members to approach their work with honesty and expertise to help raise the image of the profession.

Mr. Antwi stressed the importance of revenue to the Government to develop the country and therefore, advised members of the association to honour their tax obligation to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He suggested that the IRS should meet all professional bodies and discuss with them payment of their taxes before imposing taxes on them. Mr. Antwi appealed to the graduands to be respectful in the discharge of their duties to attract more customers.

Nana Comfort Beverly Konadu, Ashanti Regional President of the association, said the association established in 1998 with 105 members now had 500 members. She said members of the association had benefited from training courses organized by the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI) and the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) to improve on their operations. Nana Konadu stressed the need for the members to unite and gear their efforts towards developing the association to promote their welfare. The graduands were later presented with certificates.
