The Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State, Dr Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple, has said that unity is the greatest weapon of the Anlo people, emphasizing that they can overcome poverty and unemployment once they are united.
Speaking at the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo Dukor on Saturday, October 5, 2025, he recounted the past and present struggles of the Anlo people.
“The wars of our ancestors were fought with spears and shields, but today, our battles are against poverty, disunity, underdevelopment, and the lack of opportunities for our youth,” he said.
He urged communities to unite in development efforts, much like they do in building churches.
He also encouraged them to come together to construct schools, clinics, roads, and establish local enterprises.
“Our chiefs, elders, youth, and people must rise as one Anlo, not fragmented, but focused on progress,” he stated.
Dr Kwamigah-Atokple outlined a vision for the next 25 years, where every community has a vocational centre, every town hosts a clinic, and every young person is equipped with skills to thrive.
“Unity is our greatest weapon. Poverty can be defeated. Unemployment can be defeated. Division can be defeated. Together, we will rise again as a strong and visionary people,” he concluded.
Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, the 14th Awadada of Anlo and occupant of the Kaklaku Stool of the Agave Clan, has served for 25 years since his installation on September 18, 2000.
He is also the War Lord of Anlo and Vice President of the Anlo Traditional Council.
