Finland Envoy commends Effutu Assembly

Winneba (C/R), Feb 16, GNA - Ms Anneli Vuorinen, Finland Ambassador in Ghana, has commended the Effutu Municipal Assembly for making education its top most priority. Ms Vuorinen, who is based in Nigeria, made the commendation at a durbar held in her honour by the Effutu Municipal Assembly when she visited the Assembly on Monday.

She was on a visit to the Municipality to explore area her country could assist the municipality.

The Ambassador said she was happy about how education issues were being handled and expressed her country's preparedness to help improve education in the Municipality. Mr Nii Ephraim, the Municipal Chief Executive, mentioned waste management as a problem facing the Assembly and appealed to the ambassador for assistance.

Mr Mike Hammah, the Member of Parliament for the area, said the doors of the Municipality are open to investors and that there were no water and electricity problems.

The Ambassador and her entourage visited Walababa, a village in the Municipality noted for its tourist attraction and the offices of the Mike Hammah Education Endowment Trust Fund where they were told that about 120 brilliant but needy students had so far benefited from the scheme. The Ambassador had earlier in the day delivered a lecture at the University of Education, Winneba on the topic "Investing in education and Gender Equality for Sustainable Development, experience from Finland" as part of her visit.
