Fire Service Fights GWCL Over Sealing Of Water Hydrants

The Public Affairs Officer of the National Fire Service, Mr. Prince Billy Anaglate, debunked allegations by the Ghana Water Company that the Fire service is selling water to the public.

His response came as a result of the Ghana Water Company accusing the service of selling water illegally to the public; a reason why the GWCL has decided to shut down some water hydrants.

However, Mr Anaglate maintained the reason is flawed.

‘Not at all, the Fire service does not sell water to the public, what the water company fails to know, is that we have a responsibility where we render humanitarian services to schools, hospitals and even communities hat need our services’

Mr. Anaglate added that there is no justification for the Water Company to seal some of the hydrants.

This situation, he opined, is disturbing since the sealing of the hydrants is affecting the efficiency of the Ghana Fire Service.

He said, ‘when we get to the community where the hydrant is sealed, and we are fighting a fire outbreak, it therefore means that when the water in the tender is finished we have to drive from the fire scene to search for water, and by the time you come back, the fire would definitely not be waiting for you, and it would still be raging on’.

The Public Affairs Officer added that since 2009, the Ghana Fire Service has been having meetings with the Water Company on this issue but to no avail.
