Fire Service gets new head

Accra, April 24, GNA - The President John Agyekum Kufuor has appointed Mr Felix Kwame Ferka as the new Chief Fire Officer. The appointment which was done in accordance with the advice of the Fire Service Council in consultation with the Public Services Commission takes effect from May 1, 2006.

A statement issued and singed by the Minister of the Interior, Papa Owusu Ankomah said Mr Ferka, 51, joined the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in 1989 as an Assistant Divisional Officer.

He had held a number of positions in the GNFS including Divisional Officer, Assistant Chief Officer and Deputy Chief Officer. Mr Ferka holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Cape Coast and is currently pursuing Masters in Environmental Management and Policy at the same University.

Mr Ferka would replace the current Chief Fire Officer, Mr Emmanuel Atenga, who proceeds on retirement on May 1 2006.
