Accra, May 19, GNA - Socio Computers Limited, a Tema-based computer dealer, on Wednesday donated 170 Early Warning Alarm Systems costing 2,160,000 Ghana Cedis to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The Alarm Systems which were developed by the computer company and its counterparts in Europe, would be distributed to all the 170 districts where the GNFS have offices.

The offices of the GNFS would be fitted with the Main Monitoring Central Unit System which would not only display the geo-location of the fire but also show pictures of the fire in the recipients' home or office building in the absence of people.

Dr Kenneth Afari, Chief Executive Officer of Socio Computers Limited who made the presentation, expressed concern about the alarming rate of fire outbreaks in recent times.

He noted that Socio Computers as part of its commitment towards the GNFS, would also train some selected fire personnel who would operate the system at no cost to the government.

He urged the general public to patronise the detectors which would transmit the early stages of fire outbreaks in their homes and offices to their mobile phones, security personnel and the district offices of the GNFS for quick response.

He said the Alarm System which cost 150 Ghana Cedis each, would be operated by the use of rechargeable batteries which had a life span of one year.

Mr William Brown Acquaye, Chief Fire officer, expressed his gratitude to the company for the gesture.

"I will discuss this technology with my technical team to see how best we can help spread its news to encourage our homeowners to purchase them," he said.

Alhaji Amadu Sorogho, Chairman of the National Fire Council, urged the officers of the GNFS to work harder, saying government was working to address the challenges that plagued the Service.
