Fire has destroyed several properties forming part of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom’s business conglomerate. The raging fire burnt down a branch of GN Bank, two television stations ( ATV and BTA) and parts of Coconut Grove Hotel, all located at the North Ridge suburb of Accra.

The fire, according to staff of the two television stations, started from the Business Television Africa (BTA) before spreading to the bank and parts of the three-star Coconut Grove Regency Hotel which shares the same compound with the broadcast stations.

The other TV station, ATV (Amasan Televsion) close to the Ghana Immigration Service near the Ako Adjei Interchange was also completely burnt down

According to Billy Prince Anaglate, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, everybody was evacuated from the premises as the fire raged on.

It took 12 fire tenders to bring the fire under control. Billy Anaglate also denied suggestions that the fire service run out of water in the process of quenching the fire.

‘Most of the structures are made of wood which explains how fast the fire was able to spread,” he said. “It is too early to determine the cause of the fire but the situation is well under control. We were here early to curb the situation.”

Eyewitness, however, expressed disappointment in the efforts of fire personnel, asserting that the fire fighters had failed to stop the fire, which started at about 4:30pm on Saturday evening, from spreading and causing extensive damage.
