Fire destroys palace at Adausena

Adausena (E/R), Jan. 4, GNA - Fire gutted the palace of the Gyaasehene of Akyem Adausena in the Birim North District in the early hours of Thursday, destroying it completely. More than GH=A21,200 (120 million cedis) meant for the celebration of the community's annual festival was said to have been destroyed in the fire, while a quantity of stool regalia and personal effects worth millions of cedis were also burnt.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Adausena, Nana Bonua Bankro V, chief of the town said the fire started at about 1300 hours from one of the store rooms of the palace where a quantity of charcoal had been deposited and extended to the other 13 rooms. Meanwhile the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for New Abirem, Mr Napoleon Asiamah, has visited the community to express his sympathy and donated two packets of roofing sheets worth GH=A2400 (four million cedis) to the chief towards the rehabilitation of some of the rooms.

The Eastern Regional NDC Organizer, Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng who accompanied the candidate appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to go to the aid of the chief. The Nkawkaw station of the Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the cause of the fire.
