Fire destroys property of aspiring assemblywoman

Apremdo (W/R), Sept. 5, GNA - Madam Hannah Quayson, 48, an aspiring assembly member for the Apremdo electoral area and her two grand sons aged four and 10 years escaped death narrowly when her single room apartment at Apremdo near Takoradi in which they were sleeping caught fire on August 30.

A lantern that was placed near their bed that night was suspected to have caused the fire.

The fire destroyed her personal property worth several millions of cedis.

Madam Quayson, who is also the pastor of the World Harvest Crusaders Church at Apremdo, said she was grateful to God that she and her grand sons were still alive.

Following the incident she was unable to present he manifesto when the Electoral Commission mounted a platform for two candidates contesting the seat.

Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency, Madam Quayson said on that day, she went to bed at about 23:30 hours and around 0400 hours, she heard loud shouts of "fire, fire" from neighbours. She said she woke up only to find the entire room filled with smoke. Madam Quayson said neighbours forced the door open to rescue and take them to the Takoradi Hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation and discharged. She said the incident had not dampened her ambition to contest the election.
