Eight shops have been destroyed in the early hours of Thursday April 3, 2025, at the Tema Community 1 Market.
Traders are counting their losses after the unfortunate incident, as several goods have been lost to the fire.
The fire began early morning behind ABSA Bank, with firefighters from the Tema Regional Fire Service quickly appearing on the scene, according to a report shared by the Ghana National Fire Service on their Facebook page.
Their efforts were supported by personnel from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Police Service, who isolated electricity and maintained security.
Despite heavy smoke hindering firefighting efforts, the blaze was eventually controlled using two fire pumps, the report stated.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
While eight shops were lost, over 100 shops were salvaged.
Authorities said they are conducting a thorough overhaul to prevent further spread and fully contain the fire.
