Fire officers were assaulted at Dansoman
The Ghana National Fire Service has condemned the attacks of fire personnel at the Dansoman Roundabout, near Zodiac, by some aggrieved persons.
A viral video posted on X on September 8, 2024, showed some men physically and verbally assaulting fire service personnel who were dispatched to the scene where a building was on fire.
The post reportedly claimed that the officers arrived at the scene without their fire tender to deal with the fire that was fast spreading.
However, a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service clarified that the intensity of the fire required additional resources.
It added that as a result, three other fire appliances that were stationed at the Makola Zongo Lane fire were dispatched to assist with the firefighting efforts.
“Fire Officers from the Dansoman Fire station was dispatched by Fire Master Control to a reported fire at Dansoman Roundabout near Zodiac. The crew arrived at the scene within 4 minutes to find a single room building in heavy smoke and fire rapidly spreading to the adjoining buildings.
“Firefighters began firefighting and called for assistance due to the fast-spreading nature of the fire. Three other appliances that were battling the heavy fire at Makola Zongo Lane were dispatched to augment firefighting efforts. The fire was brought under control and extinguished after approximately 4 hours. Four rooms with its content that included car spare parts, cooking utensils, and personal belongings got totally damaged,” parts of the statement read.
Meanwhile, the statement disclosed that the Ghana National Fire Service has taken steps to prosecute individuals involved in the assault on its personnel.

The adjoining buildings were however salvaged. Unfortunately, some members of the community attacked the firefighters who were working assiduously to contain the situation. GNFS strongly condemns such attacks from unscrupulous persons. Steps have been taken to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
