First Board of Governors for Kwabeng Anglican SECTECH inaugurated

Kwabeng (E/R), April 13, GNA - A 13-member Board of Governors for the Kwabeng Anglican Secondary Technical School was inaugurated at Kwabeng on Tuesday and it is the first to be inaugurated for the school since its establishment in 1983.

Inaugurating the board, Ms Felicia Duku, the Acting Eastern Regional Director of Education, advised members of the board to judiciously use the powers granted them to dismiss students for indiscipline.

''Discipline in schools is meant to correct and not to destroy the student.''

Ms Duku, the New Juaben Municipal Director of Education, asked the board to ensure regular consultations between it and the students' representatives on issues that affect the students.

Responding on behalf of other members of the Board, the Rt. Rev. Francis B. Quashie, the Anglican Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, said the board would use the rich experience of its members to help solve problems facing the school to ensure its development. Mr James Teye, the Headmaster of the school, said the student population had increased from 92 in 2002 to 336.

The increase, he said, has thus put pressure on the school's infrastructure and appealed to the Ministry of Education for the provision of a 24-unit classroom block.

Mr Teye also appealed for the provision of bungalows for the Headmaster and staff, a boys' dormitory block and a bus. He said the school improved its performance last year by moving from 312 in 2003 to 289 in 2004 on the national academic league table. 13 April 05
